If you have done voice overs as a career, you know that it is not 8 hours of funny characters and creative gold. There are times when you have no scripts in front of you and the morning coffee is still steaming into the morning air. So what to do? You can only clean the desk and shuffle the papers so many times, not to mention, cleaning a desk hardly inspires the creative juices. Well, there are many things to do... right after Price Is Right. No, that won't help, as addictive as Plinko can be. One thing I like to do is stalk other voice over professionals. Not in that creepy, I'm standing outside your window with a pair of binoculars in my underwear way, but through their websites. Check out what others are doing, what makes them so successful? Why is that read so good? What words or syllable did they emphasize that you may have missed? A famous businessman Henry L. Doherty once said, "Get over the idea that only children should spend their time in study. Be a student so long as you still have something to learn, and this will mean all your life." Wise words, and words that can be applied to our fun little voice over world.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have stalked enough of my peers, not to mention I have a PVR'd Price Is Right waiting for me.
Happy voicing!
