I'm Outraged!!!!!

Let me start off by saying that I am in the process of tweaking this website into something more than just my “voice over” website and into something more encompassing of me as a whole. It’s been a few years of late night diaper changes and teething, (my children, not myself) so the fog is starting to lift and creativity may start to flow again. What that means for the website I have no idea. More personal info? More stupid pet tricks? Kale smoothie recipes? Nude selfies? Stay tuned for all of the above perhaps…

So to just dip my toes into the waters, I thought I would start with a non voice over related blog. Something that is both humorous and scary to me…

Today’s word of the day kids, is outrage or outraged. Defined as an extremely strong reaction of anger, shock, or indignation, outrage is all the rage in 2016. Let’s use it in a sentence shall we? I am outraged that in 2016, we still have people sleeping on the streets. That, is a good use of the word. What is not a good example of the word is, I am outraged that someone is offering a different opinion on something I like. Unfortunately way too often now, that is the reaction to everything: outrage.

Everybody feels the need to be outraged at something. Don’t like someone’s joke? Be outraged. Don’t like someone’s opinion on something? Be outraged. Don’t agree with what band is being played on your favorite radio station? Better get on the old computer box and send an email or write a Facebook post declaring your outrage. People love to say how minded they are, and that is true, when you agree with them, but that’s not the meaning of the term now is it?

When did we become such small minded, pedestal sitters who can’t be happy living and enjoying the life we created around us? Is life not difficult enough without getting morally outraged at things that don’t and never will concern you?

Nary do we hear outrage about the fact that it is 2016 and children are still dying of starvation and lack of fresh water but Justin Bieber drove his car fast? Or Janet Jackson’s nipple flashed on the screen so quickly you never saw it? I’m outraged!

This is what should outrage us.
